My Background

My extensive medical career, spanning over four decades and involving family medicine and emergency medicine, I have gained a wealth of experience and dedication to the field. Beginning with my medical degree from UERMMMC College of Medicine in the Philippines in 1971 and furthering my education with a residency in Family Medicine at Texas Tech University Health and Science Center in 1975, has help me contributed significantly to healthcare.

The transition from family medicine to emergency medicine was in way challenging, one has to have  a versatile skill set and adaptability to diverse medical scenarios. Emergency medicine, in particular, requires quick thinking, decisiveness, and a broad understanding of various medical conditions.

My commitment to traditional medicine over the years, addressing a range of health issues, reflects not only my medical expertise but also my dedication to patient care. Family medicine involves a holistic approach, often dealing with patients across various age groups and addressing both acute and chronic conditions.

Given my background, I have witnessed significant changes and advancements in the field of medicine throughout my career. The experience gained in both family and emergency medicine contributes not only to my personal growth but also to the broader medical community’s understanding of the challenges and rewards in these specialties.

Focus Of Patient Care

The focus on acute intervention and medication management, while important for treating immediate concerns, often falls short in addressing the root causes of chronic conditions linked to lifestyle choices. The need for a more systematic and comprehensive approach to promote healthier lifestyles is increasingly recognized within the medical community.

My experience underscores the importance of not only understanding the principles of exercise physiology and nutrition but also finding practical ways to integrate these principles into a sustainable and consistent lifestyle. The unique challenges faced by healthcare providers, particularly those in emergency medicine, highlight the need for proactive strategies to prioritize personal well-being.

I committed in to getting back into a fitness program and delving into the study of lifestyle-induced illnesses after retirement. My personal journey, including the quadruple coronary artery bypass graft, serves as a powerful testament to the importance of addressing lifestyle factors for long-term health, even for individuals with extensive medical knowledge.

My experiences could potentially serve as a source of inspiration for fellow healthcare professionals, encouraging them to prioritize their well-being and adopt healthier lifestyles despite the challenges posed by their demanding professions. Sharing my story and insights is intended to contribute to a broader dialogue within the healthcare community about the importance of self-care and preventive measures.

My perspective of the healthcare system in the United States and my commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle resonate with the growing awareness of the need for a shift from illness-focused care to a more comprehensive approach centered around prevention and well-being.

The disconnect between high healthcare expenditures and lower life expectancy in the U.S. highlights the importance of addressing the root causes of health issues, including lifestyle factors.
